Functional Assessor – Croydon

Our client is one of the UK’s leading providers of functional assessment services, and they are looking to hire registered nurses to work as functional assessors, carrying out objective holistic assessments on people with a range of physical and mental health conditions.

A functional assessor who works on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) looks to assess the person, not the condition. You will use your clinical knowledge and expertise to get a comprehensive picture of how a persons daily living activities are affected. Your assessments will be made up from a mix of questioning and, where appropriate, basic physical examinations. You will also have access to reports from GP’s and other health professionals.

Following your assessment, you will write a concise, evidence based report, which will be used by DWP decision makers to arrive at decisions regarding the amount of Personal Independent Payment (PIP) benefit that the person is entitled to.

When you start working in the role, you will be provided with comprehensive training, which is delivered in 3 stages.

1 an in-depth E-Learning programme to ensure you have the required background knowledge
2 a collaborative classroom based face to face training programme
3 on the job mentoring and training

The Person

You will be an NMC registered nurse (RGN or RMN) with broad-based experience in your career so far. You have experience of working with a range of age groups, and have dealt with a range of conditions. You will be experienced in carrying out some type of assessment, and this can be pre-admission assessments, discharge assessments, triage assessments, or some form or ongoing assessment. Knowledge of how to carry out an assessment from start to finish is more important than the type of assessment at this stage, as the extensive training provided will cover the specifics of this role.

You will also be a decent typist, with basic knowledge of using Microsoft Word. You don’t need to be a touch typist or an IT wizard, but you need to know your way around a keyboard and be comfortable typing reports following the assessments.

Working Environment & Salary

This is a permanent position and you will be based in an office in Croydon and there won’t be any need to travel to people’s homes. All of the assessments are carried out face-to-face at the office.

You will be working office hours for 9-5.30. The salary is £41,000 per annumsuccessfully.

News

News is information about current events. Journalists provide news through many different media, based on word of mouth, printing, postal systems, broadcasting, electronic communication, and also on their own testimony, as witnesses of relevant events.

Common topics for news reports include war, government, politics, education, health, the environment, economy, business, and entertainment, as well as athletic events, quirky or unusual events. Government proclamations, concerning royal ceremonies, laws, taxes, public health, criminals, have been dubbed news since ancient times.

Manual labour

Manual labour (in British English, manual labor in American English) or manual work is physical work done by people, most especially in contrast to that done by machines, and to that done by working animals. It is most literally work done with the hands (the word “manual” comes from the Latin word for hand), and, by figurative extension, it is work done with any of the muscles and bones of the body. For most of human prehistory and history, manual labour and its close cousin, animal labour, have been the primary ways that physical work has been accomplished. Mechanisation and automation, which reduce the need for human and animal labour in production, have existed for centuries, but it was only starting in the 18th and 19th centuries that they began to significantly expand and to change human culture. To be implemented, they require that sufficient technology exist and that its capital costs be justified by the amount of future wages that they will obviate.
